In my 20s, I packed my bags and moved to Utah for a job, knowing absolutely no one. I barely knew how to drive, let alone snow-drive, and I was one of very few people of color at the time. It was intimidating. Also, slightly unhinged.

It turned out to be one of the most transformative decisions of my life. That move taught me how to push past my comfort zone. Over time, it gave me the confidence to take calculated risks and trust myself in unfamiliar territory.

Now, I have lived in four countries and nine cities, earned my MBA and PhD, built my first business, and now I am building my second. Apparently, once you move to Utah alone in your 20s, everything else feels manageable.

Whenever I feel scared to stretch beyond what is comfortable, I think back to that twenty-something who said yes before she felt ready, trusted herself without a roadmap, and figured it out anyway. Remembering her gives me the courage to dream bigger and the confidence to push past my comfort zone.

What’s a risk you’re glad you took?
